In what is believed to be a first in SA, Georgiadis Lawyers has launched a general issues law blog from its website. Law blogs like this one are becoming increasingly popular in the US and in Europe and especially among the blogging community or “blogosphere”.

According to blog search engine Technorati the blogosphere comprises an estimated 71 million blogs worldwide. Only five years ago there were only thirty thousand.

A spokesperson for the firm said that they had conducted research into blog publishing and realised how helpful blawgs (the recently adopted term for law blogs) are to the public. Their research further showed that there was no easy to understand law blog written for the lay person about law relevant to SA, and in fact very few in Australia.

Most law blogs relevant to Australian law are written by law academics and published by university blogs or lawyers writing for other lawyers or accountants. “We wanted to provide a blawg in easily understood language which would be of use to everyone”.

Readers are invited to post comments and ask questions via the blog and then solicitors will publish questions and answers. It is hoped that readers will then be able to obtain help in understanding popular legal issues ranging from small business, leases, car accidents, bank documents, divorce, current affairs and anything else of general interest.

Posts will include cases and events reported in the media and changes to legislation. Recent posts include comments on general insurance, changes to stamp duty, product disclosure strategies, car accidents and divorce.

With the one click, readers can also subscribe to the blog via RSS Feed and receive automatic updates without having to manually check the blog.

Georgiadis Lawyers stress that the blawg is not a substitute for professional legal advice and should not be interpreted as such. The blog may be viewed at http://www.georgiadis.com.au/index.php
